  • Is it possible to embroider on vinyl?

Yes, you can embroider on vinyl. Please remember, any time you try something new, it's a good idea to practice on scrap first. Keep in mind:

    1. The design should not be too dense.
    2. The needle will leave permanent holes, so do not use a basting stitch.
    3. Use a new universal or stretch needle. A product called Sewer's Aid is a good needle lubricant for vinyl.
    4. The stabilizer should be sticky to hold your vinyl secure in the hoop.
    5. A good stabilizer is INSPIRA Aquawater - a water-soluble sticky stabilizer. When you're finished, it will completely wash out of your project.
    6. Run the machine slower using the foot control or the speed key.
    7. Some vinyl items that look wonderful with embroidery are totes, purses, computer bags, aprons, tablecloths, upholstery, raincoats, jackets, and more.
  • Is there anything I can do to help maintain my sewing machine?

Yes, there is a procedure you can do to help maintain your sewing machine.

    1. Change the needle often. It is good for about eight hours of sewing time. Schmetz is a needle brand you can trust. Make sure the needle is the correct size for the thread and fabric you are using.
    2. Use good quality, non-linty thread.
    3. Clean your machine. Take the needle plate off and get all the lint out of the bobbin-shuttle area and the feed dogs. A mini-vac attachment kit works very well. We have these in stock.
    4. If your machine requires oil, look in your instruction book to determine the oiling points. Use only one drop at those points. Never oil belts or plastic parts. Use only genuine sewing machine oil and never three-in-one or an all-purpose oil.

Bringing a sewing machine in for a tune-up in a timely manner also extends the life of a sewing machine. We service all makes and models.
